Community Thanksgiving Dinner

This dinner is held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church but is supported by the entire community, with donations of food and volunteers from other area churches, companies and individuals. Turkeys are smoked and pulled in advance, pies are baked and cut in advance, and dinner are boxed and served or delivered on Thanksgiving Day. Our Club will volunteer in all aspects and provide a cash donation. |

Lew Schuman from the World War II Museum

Our speaker today was Lew Schuman, a veteran himself and a docent at the World War II Museum. He gave us an update on the history of the museum and why it was built in New Orleans, and the museum's plans for expansion. He also presented tickets to the museum to three lucky Club members for correctly answering his trivia questions about WWII! Slidell's Bayou Christmas is an event held at Slidell's Heritage Park that benefits the Slidell Unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of Louisiana. They are looking for volunteers to assist with making this a fun event for our community. Volunteers are needed from 6-9 pm on Thursday - Sunday, December 15-18 and again Thursday and Friday, December 22 and 23. On Saturday, December 17, 2022, Wreaths Across America will be at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud. Paper Ballots

St Tammany Clerk of Court Melissa Henry spoke to us about the legislation passed during the 2021 Louisiana regular session and which was signed by the Governor. This will require new voting systems to produce an auditable paper record. She explained how this will affect the need for more Voting Commissioners and slow down reporting of election results. |

Fee is $100 Critical to RLI is the idea that we do not train for specific club positions but rather Rotarians. Camellias in Slidell and the Ozone Camellia Club

Michael Tassin gave us a history of the Ozone Camellia Club, which formed in 1951, and how camellias were introduced to our area. The club meets the first Monday of every month and holds a ball with a court, including queen and consort. The Queen is invited every year to the Washington Mardi Gras Ball in D.C.
