LA State Budget Update

John M. Schroder, Sr. was elected Louisiana State Treasurer on November 18, 2017. As Treasurer, he oversees more than $6 billion in investments and over $38 billion in cash flow. He also chairs the Louisiana State Bond Commission and returns millions of dollars in unclaimed property to Louisiana citizens.

John was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2007 to represent St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes. John used his business sense while serving on the Appropriations and Joint Budget committees to focus on the need for structural changes in budgeting practices and capital outlay usage. After 10 years in the Legislature, he resigned his seat to run for State Treasurer.

John believes Louisiana state government should live within its means and is an advocate for transparency at all levels of government. As Treasurer, he will continue to push for a streamlined budgeting process, capital outlay reform, and controlling the out of control growth of government.

John is a graduate of East Jefferson High School, Southeastern Louisiana University, and a Veteran of the United States Army. He is a businessman, co-owner of a real estate company, and a residential developer. John has been married to Ellie Daigle Schroder for 33 years.
