The Rotary Club of Slidell is collecting Shoes for Orphan Souls.  These shoes are part of the largest humanitarian aid projects sponsored by Buckner International, a global Christian ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children, families and elders.  According to the Buckner Shoes for Orphan Soul’s website, ap air of simple shoes can go a long way to preventing disease from hookworms and other parasites, as well as protect feet from injury.  In many communities, they allow children to attend school who would not have been eligible due to lacking of the required footwear.

The donations will be distributed overseas, as well as in the United States, to vulnerable children and orphans.  Since 1999, more than 2.5 million pairs of new shoes have been distributed to children in 74 countries.

Rotary International District 6840, made up of Louisiana and Mississippi chapters, last year collected 1,494 pairs of shoes and 1,390 pairs of socks for distribution.

Buy a new pair of shoes and socks.  Sneakers and athletic shoes are best.  The greatest need is for sizes Youth 1 - Adult 7.  Bring these new socks and shoes to our regular meeting.
